Class 1 - Mrs. Flynn

Class 1 - Mrs. Flynn

Welcome to our class page. We use a creative approach to the curriculum that provides children with a unique and exciting opportunity to become independent learners. We love to learn through play and adventure; we learn to love one another by embracing our differences. If you would like to take a look at what we have been learning, please visit our class blog. You can also check this year's planned activities and the homework that has been set by looking at the resource page. Don't forget to keep an eye out each week to see who has been given a special mention! The latest newsletter can be downloaded here below.

Autumn 2  - Arctic Adeventures - How cold can you get?

Welcome back to another action packed half term!  Our creative topic this half term is based on the Arctic. This theme will run throughout the different subjects and will, I’m sure, excite and motivate the children. Watch out for our Operation Deep Freeze training day!

In Literacy the children will be investigating non-fiction texts to develop their own fact-file about  Arctic explorers. We will also explore the rhythm and repetition found in the Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen to create our own arctic inpsired version.

This half term in numeracy we will be very busy playing with number!  Our learning will include; comparing numbers using symbols; recognising odd and even numbers. Measurement – exploring length, weight & telling the time.

In geography the children will be finding out about the locations of the North and South Pole and compare the climate to that of England. They will also discover life in the Arctic, particularly the Inuit people.

In science we will be exploring the properties of materials to investigate the best material for an explorer’s jacket.

Our topic in R.E is ‘Belonging.’ We will be discovering the sacrament of baptism by identifying how we are all part of God’s family. We will visit Deacon Martin in church to see how baptism welcomes people into the Christian community.  Then we will move on to the season of Advent as we prepare ourselves for the Nativity of Our Lord.

Mrs Fedyszyn will be in class 1 to work with the children to develop their art skills.

Please ensure you spend time reading with your child frequently and support them to practise their spellings that will be tested every Monday.

Keep your eyes out for the children listed below to see who will be recieving a special mention in our Friday assembly.
